Overview
pdf7x converts your images and documents into PDFs and extracts text from PDFs. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect the minimum needed to run the service and nothing more.
Files you convert
When you convert a file, it is processed to produce your result and then discarded. We do not store the contents of your uploaded files, and conversions are not tied back to you when you use the tool without signing in. For PDF → Text, the file is sent to an AI model only long enough to extract its text — see "AI processing" below.
AI processing
The PDF → Text feature uses an AI language model to read your PDF and return its text. The file content is passed to the model for that single extraction and is not used to train anything. We don't keep the file or the extracted text on our servers after the conversion finishes.
Third-party services
We rely on a few trusted services to run pdf7x. Stripe handles subscription payments. ConvertAPI powers our Office → PDF conversions. An AI provider powers PDF → Text extraction. Each of these services receives only what's needed to perform its job, and each is responsible for its own privacy practices.
Account information
If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. We use your email to send service messages (such as password resets) and to identify your subscription. We never sell your account information.
Usage and limits
For signed-in users we track the number of conversions per month so we can enforce your plan's limits. For anonymous visitors, usage is counted only within your own browser so we can show how many conversions you have left; that count is not sent to us.
Payments
Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, but your full card details never touch our servers — Stripe handles them directly.
Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, we keep your email and subscription record so you can resubscribe, but we stop billing you. Anonymous usage counts live only in your browser and clear when you erase your browser storage. To request full deletion of your account and data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, and limited access to account data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, though, so we can't guarantee absolute security. We'll let you know promptly if a breach ever affects your account data.
Children's privacy
pdf7x isn't intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we'll delete it.
International users
pdf7x and its service providers may process data in countries other than your own. By using the service, you understand your files and account information may be handled where those providers operate, under their respective protections.
Cookies and local storage
We use local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your anonymous conversion count. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see what data we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, or opt out of any analytics. To use any of these rights, contact us through the support channels in your account and we'll help you within a reasonable time.
Your choices
You can use pdf7x without creating an account. You can delete your browser's local storage to reset the anonymous counter. If you have an account and want it removed, contact us and we will delete your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as pdf7x grows. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Big changes will be flagged in the app or by email where possible. Keep an eye on this page to stay in the loop.
